Football rant - France vs England

Warning, this insight might be wrong as I watched only half of the game. Fell asleep after *cough*she*cough* sleep. As expected, Hodgson start with a 442 and I almost got the lineup right too. Welbeck got the nod over Carroll, probably coz of his pace and trickiness. Hodgson went with the classic, direct English style. Too bad they were none in the team who can dictate the pace and spread the ball out wide. Carrick would've been useful. Parker was pretty good but he offer little passing range. Gerrard and his failed hollywood passing shouldnt even get a mention. I thought Carrick + Gerrard would do better. Carrick to stay in front of the back four, setting the pace and spreading the ball wide while Gerrard could do some surging runs forward and maybe standing by outside the penalty box since he is pretty good in long shots. But yeah I aint Hodgson -_- And with Hodgson prefering the more direct style, someone who can hold the ball isnt really needed.

Okay back to the game. England played well in the opening minutes. Milner got a great chance, being put through by Young but he failed to put the ball in the empty net. Welbeck and Ox made few tricky runs here and there, lots of through ball eventho they were no one to latch onto them. England got the breakthrough when Lescott scored from Gerrard's freekick. Deserved lead since England was doing better than the Frenchmen that time. But that proved to be a point of change. England look disjointed. Wing play was poor. Ox did well but Milner, he looked clueless. It is well known that he doesnt have fancy footwork and with no overlapping runs from Cole, the left side offered little attacking threat. I thought the CMs drop too deep that Young and Welbeck were isolated. When they got the ball there were no support. Nasri equalised and France keep pressing. England were in the backfoot. Then the halftime whistle went and so was I. Doze off to a deep slumber on the couch I lay down every night in this EURO season.

Aint much choice so I guess the formation and the lineup will be pretty much the same in the upcoming game. If it is up to me, Milner to be dropped in the favour of a more attacking-minded winger. Walcott maybe. Or maybe Downing if Roy choose to use Carroll upfront. Downing's crosses could be useful combined with Carroll's eheight. Hoping Gerrard to push higher and provide defence-splitting passes. Parker should just stay in front of the back four in case of any counter attacks. Welbeck and Young forged a good partnership upfront and I expect them to play in the next game. I do have an idea though. Walcott is hot and cold, Downing had a bad season. Why dont start with Young on the left. This guy can cross. And if he choose to cut inside - something he does often, Cole can cover him up. Carroll to be the target man and Welbeck can run at the flicks and headers of Carroll. Sounds like a plan, at least for me haha

Guess that's it for my rant. And oh, Harimau Malay beat Singapore 2-0. Job well done, Tahniah Malaysia! Good game it was. Proud with the gameplay.
